The Miracle on fifth avenue- 1979
Where it all began
In 1979, what would become ALPHA House of Pinellas County began with one woman’s compassion and a moment that changed everything.
Through her volunteer work, Marilyn Deeb was supporting women in crisis when she encountered a young pregnant woman who was alone, afraid, and had nowhere to go. At the time, there were no programs or resources available to meet her needs.
That moment revealed a much deeper need within the community, one that could no longer be ignored.
Instead of turning away, Marilyn chose to act. What began as a single act of compassion quickly became a promise: no woman should have to walk through pregnancy and homelessness alone.
With faith, determination, and the support of a growing community, she opened her home to provide a safe place for women in need. As more women began to seek help, that small act of kindness grew into something far greater.
Through the support of local individuals, churches, and community partners, the foundation for ALPHA House was formed, built on dignity, stability, and hope.
What began as a “miracle on Fifth Avenue” has grown into a life-changing organization serving hundreds of mothers and babies each year.
Today, ALPHA House continues to provide safe housing, education, and supportive services that empower women to break cycles of homelessness and build stable, self-sufficient futures for themselves and their children.
